TOP SPOT

In at number 1 was another in the ‘O’ series, 101 O. This buyer obviously thought it was a 10/10 plate and saw them part with a very impressive £116,950.

SECOND

Again, following the multiple ‘O/0’ characters was 7007 JB at £36,045 bought for the symmetrical look possibly.

THIRD

Did the buyer make a ‘Boob’ with this 1, 8008 S selling at £35,274 – not bad for a ‘Pair’ or was it the O/0 characters, that were more alluring?

FOURTH

At number four was 1 ORO at £33,798. Once again, there was no meaning that we could spot, but that visual impact is definitely there.

FIFTH

In at number five was 40 NAN, which sold for £30,947. Possibly a very generous gift for someone's nan, or Adnan was the lucky buyer.

Words

This month's auction saw 11 RUN at £24,489 and WNG 1T (Wing it) at £19,995. COB 5A (£11,495) which could be read as 'Cobra', and OP71 MAL at £10,365 was pretty much the optimal spelling of 'Optimal'. R35 ALE (Resale) sold for £9,119 and 50 NEW (So new) for £6,705.

Now this was a very intriguing one, F888 YOU at £6,500. Reading between the lines this could be seen as the 8’s playing the role as asterisks ???

Names

The top creditable name we saw in this auction was ASH 12H ('Ashish') at £19,353.

STN 6H at £16,785 could pass for a 'Singh' registration in the right light and is a good example of how well even imperfect name representations can perform, as the bids on this rose steadily throughout the auction.  Another 'Singh' opportunity took the form of YS51 NGH at £5,550.

More names that were sold included OSM 999N ('Osman') at £16,528, RAA 74N ('Rayan') at £15,501, ANN 71E ('Annie') at £14,409, 544 NDY ('Sandy') at £11,662, 47 EEM ('Azeem') £10,352, WA22 REN ('Warren') at £9,466, BA17 NES ('Barnes' or 'Baines') at £9,081 and this would look fabulous on a mini MRR 834N ('Mr Bean') at £7,784.

And Sue is a little Devil purchasing this 666 SUE for £6,500.

Cars

Yet again the Porsche 911 owners were spoilt for choice in this auction, 911 MKY (£15,103), 911 XP (£11,071), 911 GEE (£9,068), 911 TX (£7,797), 911 AWS (£6,500), 911 JSK (£5,242) to mention a few but there were lots more!

Best of the rest

As always there were a number of visually appealing plates with same character repetition or symmetry:

A100 OOO (£11,341)

99 CCC (£10,468)

1234 HH (£6,577)

8888 CW (£5,897)

J6 OOO (£5,614)

XX25 XXX (£5,229)

The stats
